The Special Purpose Rifle (SPR) barrel replicates the barrel of the Mark 12 Mod X Intermediate sniper/designated marksman rifles used by some special operations groups. This 5.56 NATO chambered, 18" barrel with a 1-7" twist easily handles the heavier bullets needed for long-range precision shooting, while still offering a more compact platform than the standard 20" rifle. Constructed from 416R stainless steel and finished with a bead blasted matte finish. Rifle-length gas system provides reliable extraction at lower pressures.
5.56 NATO was developed in the United States and initially chambered in the M16 rifle. It is the standard cartridge for NATO forces as well as many non-NATO countries. It is derived from, but not identical to, the .223 Remington cartridge. We use a NATO, mil-spec chamber in our barrels that is reliable and safe to fire .223 Rem
